The image of the street taken looking north towards the Hinds Head Inn. In the foreground are Brook House on left and the Forge & Pottery on the right.It would have been taken from the middle of the road outside the gates to Kiln House (not seen on right)
The photographer was J W Righton of Newbury who made many postcards. More information on him can be found on the Dictionary of Methodism, Great Britain and Ireland website . He is also the focus of the 2008 book, “Pedagogy to Photography: The Life and Work of John William Righton” by Thomas Linney Norgate
The reverse of this postcard shows it was posted in Aldermaston on 27 October 1920. The red carmine 1d George V stamp was the postage for cards from 1918 to 1921
