ALDERMASTON

ENTERTAINMENT.—The Aldermaston troop of Boy Scouts gave an excellent entertainment at the Parish Hall on Tuesday, August 3rd. Afternoon and evening performances were given, and at both there were large and appreciative audiences. Some recitations wore first given, and these were followed by the play, “The Prince and the Witch,” in which, particularly in the fairy scene, the acting was admirable, making it difficult to realise that all the performers were boys, and the general effect was greatly augmented by the dresses, which were made by the Misses Kitcat, who also “coached” the boys in their parts. An orchestra. consisting of piano (Miss Keyser) and violins (Miss S. Keyser and Mr P. J. White) gave suitable musical selections. The hall was nicely decorated by willing helpers, and the Scouts were entertained to tea by Mr and Mrs. W. Bucknell. Photographic groups of the Scouts (taken by Mr P. Robert) were on sale, as well as various articles made by the boys. The proceeds amounted to about £9, and these will be applied to defraying the cost of the Scouts’ uniforms. Mr Orviss, of the Co-operative Stores, kindly provided cake for the boys after their arduous day’s work, and to him, as well as to all the other helpers, the thanks of the promoters are due.

SUNDAY SCHOOL TREAT.—The children attending the Aldermaston C.E. Sunday School had their annual treat on Saturday. The treat was held in the Vicarage grounds, and a very pleasant afternoon was passed in various amusements, which included sports. Tea was provided at the Parish Hall. Mr Keyser kindly presented 1s to each child who had made perfect attendance for the year. The prizes were presented by Miss Horwood. The Vicar and Mrs Horwood were assisted by a willing staff of lady helpers, and the children, before separating, gave hearty cheers for them, and also for Mr Keyser.

MR. KEYSER’S TRIP.—On Monday morning a large number of the employees on the Aldermaston estate, with other residents, accepted the kind invitation of Mr C. Keyser for his annual trip. The party were conveyed to the station by brakes,
and they were there joined by others, making up a total of about 70. Travelling via Newbury, Southampton was reached soon after 11, and the steamer ” Solent Queen,” which was in waiting, was boarded. Lunch was taken on board at mid-day, and at its conclusion the thanks of the company were given to Mr Keyser, on behalf of the party, by Col. Keyser, C B. Shortly after the party had returned on deck, “The Needles ” came into view, and an enjoyable time spent in viewing the various parts of the Isle of Wight as they came in sight. The steamer put in at Shanklin, where the party disembarked for about an hour, and shortly after their return to the boat, tea was taken, after which Mr Walter Stanmore, proposed that a cordial vote of thanks be given to Mr Keyser, a vote which was carried by acclamation. On arrival at Southampton, a short time was spent in seeing the town, and the 8.38 train was boarded, the travellers arriving at Aldermaston at about 10.40. Before leaving the station, the Rev. F. R. Horwood called for three cheers for Mr Keyser, which were given with all heartiness, and the village was reached by brake.
