The Forge House used to have a petrol pump (reputedly one of the first in the area) hidden behind the brick wall on the insistence of Charles Keyser and the opening, for passing through the pump nozzle, was re-incorporated when the wall was rebuilt in the 1990s.

Hanging in Aldermaston Parish Hall, this photo shows the petrol station which Charles Keyser allowed Mr Ford, the farrier, to install. He insisted it be hidden behind the brick wall with just a small hole to pass the hose and nozzle through.

This image zooms in to show the petrol station in more detail- evidently two "SHELL" symbols, in frosted glass, were mounted on each side of the gateway.

The same view in 2020. The pump is long since gone but the hole in the wall was replicated when the wall was re-built and can be seen in this modern photo.
